University SRC Elections Heat Up as EFFSC and SASCO Battle for Student Votes

By: Philip Mojapelo

The University of Limpopo is abuzz with anticipation as the SRC elections draw near, scheduled for September 8, 2025.

Two rival political parties, the Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command (EFFSC) and the South African Students Congress (SASCO), have been working tirelessly to win the hearts and minds of students.

Over the past weeks, the campus has transformed into a political battleground. Both organizations have been approaching students directly, engaging in face-to-face conversations about their manifestos, while also leveraging the power of social media to reach wider audiences. Online posters, videos, and live sessions have flooded platforms, ensuring that their messages do not go unheard.

The campaigning has not stopped at words alone. In a bid to attract and energize supporters, both EFFSC and SASCO hosted bashes on the eve of the elections, bringing in popular artists to entertain students and create hype around their parties. The events drew massive crowds, proving that the influence of culture and music plays a big role in student politics.

However, the rivalry has not been without drama. In recent weeks, both parties have been exposing each other’s weaknesses, digging up controversies, and using every opportunity to turn students away from their opponents. This back-and-forth has added tension to the election atmosphere, with many students divided in their loyalties.

As election day approached, the excitement and uncertainty continued to grow. With both parties pulling out all the stops, only time will tell which side will secure the student leadership and set the direction for the University of Limpopo’s student body in the coming year.
