The University of Limpopo has taken a firm stand against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) following recent reports from female students who raised concerns about harassment and mistreatment by certain individuals on campus. In response to these troubling incidents, the Student Representative Council (SRC) president launched a movement aimed at protecting and supporting women across the institution.
The campaign encourages students, especially women, to come forward and report any form of harassment or abusive behavior without fear of victimization.Speaking during the launch, the SRC president emphasized that the university community cannot remain silent while women continue to feel unsafe in spaces meant for learning and growth. He urged all students to play an active role in creating a campus environment where respect, dignity, and equality prevail.“This is not just a women’s fight, but a collective responsibility. Every student must take a stand against harassment and GBV. Silence only empowers perpetrators, but speaking out will ensure that action is taken,” the SRC President said.
The movement has already gained traction among students and staff members who believe that addressing GBV requires both awareness and action. The SRC has also promised to work closely with the university’s management and protection services to ensure that reports of harassment are treated with urgency and sensitivity.By standing together, the University of Limpopo community aims to send a strong message: GBV will not be tolerated on campus, and every student has the right to safety, dignity, and respect.
