The University of Limpopo held the Digital Innovation Lab certificate ceremony.In March 2024, the university launched the Digital Innovation Lab aimed at addressing unemployment in the province, the Lab is a partnership between the University of Limpopo, Samsung Electronics South Africa and the Department of Trade, Industry, and Competition (DTIC).
The Limpopo Digital Innovation Lab was meant to train unemployed youth with software development skills, adding to their anticipation of employment. Addressing also unemployment by giving them practical training and the opportunity to get real-life work experience.
The ceremony had different speakers, including Mr. Isaac Maredi, who is the executive director of information and communications technology at the University of Limpopo. He spoke about the purpose of the certificate ceremony and also emphasized how much of an honor it is to celebrate the 1st Cohort of the Limpopo Digital Innovation Lab.
Other participants included Mr. Komosasa Mokaba, the Divisional Head of the Seshego Digital hub, who celebrated the achievements of the graduates also touching on them mastering coding which demands more creative thinking, and problem-solving skills. He encouraged the graduates to purposefully apply their knowledge.At least there were three top graduates for the inaugural Limpopo Digital Innovation Lab program.
Their dedication and hard work showed the incredible potential of our youth in shaping the digital landscape.Amogelang Maredi and Mazwi Phogole are amongst the individuals who completed the 1st Cohort of the Limpopo Digital Innovation Lab program at the University of Limpopo.
The individuals mentioned how the program has equipped them with skills and practical experience that contributed to their employment at the University of Limpopo, hoping that the program can expand further and reach other young individuals especially the ones in rural areas so they too can have access to life changing opportunities
